The New Year has passed, how are you doing with those concrete resolutions? Those double fudge chocolate chip cookies are looking good, and New Year resolutions are almost a thing of the past?
Why do we feel this great motivation to improve ourselves and then fail so blindingly fast?
Don't throw in the towel yet - try these 4 keys that are sure to get you back on track with your dreams.
1: Clarify Your Purpose!
Considered purpose inspires the direction you could undertake and leads to committed, ordered decisions (goals). Purpose sheds light on the real roadblocks you face and 'powers' your willpower.
Powerful purpose (your 'why') comes from within and is not based on what you think others want. A strong sense of purpose will fan the coals of inspiration and keep your motivation hot.
To figure out your purpose ask, "Why do I want to do this? What will this lead me to? Why is it important for me to achieve this?" - With a strong "why" you can get through whatever it takes.
2: Adjust Your Attitude!
Eradicate self-sabotage by cultivating productive attitudes. Ask yourself: am I teachable? Do I take responsibility for my results? Do I exercise self-discipline over unhealthy indulgence? Do I have the patience for work-in-progress? Am I realistic in my expectations?
Do you have some homework to do on your attitude before starting down the path? Our attitudes are habits - are your 'attitude habits' working for you or against you?
3: Create Your Environment!
When you sincerely consider the life space/cost in effort, time, and emotion you get pretty clear on what is truly important. Instead of waiting for it to show up, create the mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical space for this new aspect of your life growth.
Purge activity that is no longer expedient, and reallocate this space to your new resolve rather than add more activity. Receive support by informing those close to you that you have committed to new activity.
4: Make Your Committed Decision!
Study it out and then make a decision (set a goal) in harmony with, and in the direction of, your purpose. Make a commitment to undertake whatever it takes.
To achieve significant progress your strongest commitment must be on the line. Consider dropping the deadline where timeframes are not critical, and focus on 'progression in the direction you are going' not 'the time it's taking.'
Without higher order purpose, your goals are not aligned and become disorganized activity.
To Evolve Long Term Is More Powerful Than To Resolve Short Term.
For example, if your purpose was overall health and wellbeing, your focus on sustainable life change, you carved out the needed space, garnered support of others, and made a committed decision, your 'eat better' and 'fitness' goals would find motivation.
To evolve is what you are really attempting - to progress! It's never too late to find a purpose to evolve and then you will have what it takes to power your resolve!
